How did this come about? Strictly because of a casual comment by one of our Woolen Willow customers who asked "Why isn't there a magazine focused on primitive quilts & projects?"
Aha! The light bulb came on and in 2010, sisters Gretchen Smith, Jeni Gaston, and Judy Williamson launched into high gear to produce “Primitive Quilts and Projects,” dedicated to the primitive quilter, rug hooker, and stitcher. Our debut issue, “Summer 2011,” hit the scene in April 2011 and sold out in a matter of months. Since then we’ve enjoyed producing a new issue each quarter, while making new friends along the way.
A lot has changed since 2011. In 2023, we changed the beloved print magazine to a digital magazine, and while it was met with a lot of hesitation, we've continued to move forward and deliver the patterns and projects that our loyal fanbase has always loved. And now, in 2024, we have launched our newest endeavor: The PQP Stitch Club! The Stitch Club is a monthly membership that provides our members with the patterns they know and love, alongside additional, wonderful content - a printable back issue library going back to 2011, videos made by our very own Judy Williamson, a community chat, and so much more. We hope you love the new features as much as we do!
Good Harbor Media acquired Primitive Quilts and Projects in 2019. Judy is still a part of the team, producing the content, helping shape the future of the brand, and preserving the original look and feel. And Jeni and Gretchen are always a phone call or visit away, any time Judy needs a bit of sisterly help :)
We invite your questions, comments and submissions at any time. This is a fun journey and we are so happy to be taking it with you!
